Turas Staire Na Dara Bliana
Turas Staire na Dara Bliana
Second Year History Trip
Ar an Aoine, an 6ú Feabhra chuaigh an dara bliain ar thuras staire ar mhodúl na bPlandálacha i gcúrsa staire bhliain a dó. Thosaíomar ag Dún Shéarlais, áit a d’fhoghlaim na daltaí mar gheall ar Chath Chionn tSáile, An Armáid Spáinneach agus mar a d’athraigh Cionn tSáile ó shin. Ansin bhí siúlóid staire timpeall an bhaile againn agus tóraíocht taisce staire eagraithe le Barry Moloney – staraí, foilsitheoir agus treoraí le Don & Barry’s Kinsale Historic Stroll. D’oibrigh sé le Rick Steves dá chlár Best of Ireland Tours, ar a chlár raidió agus sa scéim Oidhreacht i Scoileanna. I measc na séadchomharthaí ar an siúlóid bhí Caisleán Dheasumhan & d’fhoglaim na daltaí faoi Éirí Amach Dheasumhan & Plandáil na Mumhan. Thug siad cuairt ar an séipéal is sine sa bhaile, Séipéal Naomh Multose & d’fhoghlaim siad mar gheall ar thionchar an Reifirméisin ar an séipéal sin. Bhí am saor ag na daltaí ansin dul timpeall an bhaile. Ar deireadh chuamar ar aghaidh chuig Awesome Walls chun ailleadóireacht a dhéanamh. D’éalaigh an Taoiseach Gaelach Aodh Rua Ó Domhnaill óna phríosúntacht i gCaisleán Bhaile Átha Cliath trí dhreapadh síos fallaí an chaisleáin agus é 14 bhliana déag d’aois. Bhí deis ag na daltaí a fháil amach an bhféadfaidís a leithéid a dhéanamh freisin. D’éirigh go hiontach lá agus bhaineamar an-sult as an lá. Buíochas do chách a chabhraigh.

On Friday, the 6th of February second year students went on a history trip to Kinsale based on the Plantations module on the second year history course. We began at Charles Fort where the students learnt about the Battle of Kinsale, the Spanish Armada and how Kinsale has been changed since. Then we had a historical walking tour of Kinsale and treasure hunt organised with Barry Moloney – historian, publisher and guide who has worked with Rick Steves for his television and radio programmes Best of Ireland Tours and with the Heritage in Schools Scheme. Amongst the sites seen were Desmond Castle where the students learnt about the Desmond Rebellion and the Plantation of Munster. We visited the oldest church in Kinsale, Saint Multose’s Church and learnt about the impact of the Protestant Reformation in Kinsale. The students then had some free time. Finally we went to Awesome Walls to go rock climbing. The Irish Chieftain, Red Hugh O’Donnell, escaped from imprisonment in Dublin Castle by scaling down the walls at 14 years old. The second years had the opportunity to find out if they could repeat this epic escape. They were very impressive and all had a great day. Thanks to all who helped.
